SSD vs. CPU

Which upgrade should I do first that will give me the most performance increase. I use this tank for everything from DJing, audio production, to CAD and renderings. I currently have the i7-740qm, and I recently put in a Corsair F120Gb SSD (which I can still return). Would I get more increase with the SSD or is it worth it to return the SSD and get the i7-920xm?

I plan on doing both but I can't afford both at the same time.

Thanks. I must say I love this forum (even though there is a ton of threads to sift through to find what I need and I love my m15x.

If I were you, I would keep the SSD since that will significantly improve your start up and shut down speeds as well as the overall speed of the computer. Your getting them both either way however as stated above so I would hold on to the SSD right now and purchase the 920xm later.

i don't think a 920xm would make much of a difference. The SSD will yield much more results in responsiveness and things like encoding in audio production wil run a lot faster. Definitly keep your ssd.

How much did you find the 920xm for? The SSD you have should be like half the price of an ES 920xm.

$400 on ebay, the SSD was $200. So yes it's half, but I could sell my current CPU for aroun $100-150. So it's really be $250-300 for the upgrade to the CPU.

True. Oh crap, now you got me thinking about getting a 920xm .

EDIT: Jesus...have you seen the benchmarks for the new sandy-bridge i7's? They totally destroy the 1st gens.

PassMark - CPU Benchmarks - List of Benchmarked CPUs

repent you blasphemous scoundrel. Thou shalt not use his name in vain.

Anyways what you see on passmark is stock. The 9_0XM cpu's have unlocked multipliers which you can manipulate to get like 3.4GHz on 4 cores 8 threads.
