"The location you specifid does not contain stored information. Please type in a valid folder path...bla, bla, bla". When I look in My Computer, navigate to the folder, and double click it, it shows the two files, one is a 9320kb DAT file, the other a 1kb File.
Any ides?

I assume that's not something as simple as connecting one computer's ethernet port to the other's? Strange, it worked perfectly the other two times I used it (the wizard)

Just last month I connected two machines with a plain ethernet cable and it was very simple. As a bonus both machines had 1000BT ethernet which sped up the process.
Yes the HDD method works sometimes. Microsoft continues to produce 98% reliable software.

The installation is temporary, so think I'll skip it for now. What I am planning is to tansplant my old Dell's HDD into this machine (the Dell'd XP settings are what I wanted to transfer). What I will need to do then is reformat the C partition (XP). Will the Settings Transfer Wizard work any relaible if I use the E partition as the location for the settings to be stored?

So far without fail, I have yet to see this function if the restore volume is on the same HDD as what I am saving or restoring from. Maybe I did something wrong as a child but here I have to use a blank external or the ethernet cable.

Tried the floppy method. It needed 5 diskettes, and of course of the box of them that I had in my drawer, only 4 were useable. Last ditch, I tried using the Wizard on my Windows XP CD in my "old" computer instead of the one in Programs/Accessories, saved to the external HDD like before. This time it liked it...maybe the Wizard living in the old computer had become evil, and gone to the Dark Side

I switched HDDs yesterday, reformatted/reinstalled XP, and had success with the FSTW on my backup HDD that I tested previously. Ahh!
