5850 Flash Guide?

What happened to the 5850 bios flashing guide?? I could use it!

1. Download the HP USB Key Utility: HP USB Disk Storage Format Tool - v2.1.8 Download - EXTREME Overclocking

2. Download the Windows 98 system files: Windows 98 System Files Download - EXTREME Overclocking

3. Download Atiflash from techPowerUp! :: Download ATIFlash 3.79

4. Install the HP USB Key Utility

5. Launch the HP USB Key Utility and do the following:

- Insert your USB thumb drive.

- Select File system as "FAT32"

- Select Format Option as "Create a DOS bootable Disk..."

- Checkmark the box that says, "Quick Format"

- Locate the directory you extracted the Win98 files.

- Format the USB key using the the Win98 files.

6. make copy of your bios using gpu-z

4. use rbe to edit your vbios, then save to your usb stick, remember to add ".rom" at the end of your new bios name when saving. Also remember to save atiflash on the usb stick also.

7. Restart.

8. F12

9. Boot from USB

10. At command prompt... type in "atiflash -s 0 vbios.rom - this is to save the original bios

11. then type in "atiflash -p -fs 0 "newbios".rom - this will flash the new bios

FLASHING IS RISKY, so do so at your own risk.

Thanks inap. I wish there was a way to recover a bad flash but it seems to not post at all, even if I were to program something to boot off of USB and autorun the flash command.

Yep, same thing when trying to save in RBE. I get an error, something to do with the subvendor id and it won't save. This is probably why the last flash borked.

yeah your best move is to call dell for a new mobo. good luck

Ahhhh, I was using the wrong RBE version. No wonder. Yeah, I already got a replacement video card. Trying to flash my stable over clocks so I don't have to keep using atitool but almost afraid to now after the first disaster

@Inap, now that's the boiled down, condensed version of the process. LOL.

It sure is. Still have the original problem though.

My 5850 stops at 300/400. powerplay enabled, tried it disabled and it does nothing. Basically, I have yet to see this thing go to 625/1000 under load. I used ATITool to artifact scan and GPUZ tells me the gpu load is 85%+.

Clocks still 300/400, I verified what GPUZ is telling me to what DXDIAG says and they both show correctly so I am left wondering if it is a problem with the 11.2 software. About to revert back to the Dell drivers tonight but kind of at a loss here....

The stock 5850M caps out at 300/400 under 2 conditions -- 1) Stealth mode is enabled or 2) PowerPlay is disabled. It has nothing to do with the Cat 11.2 drivers.
