MY FIRST BUILD.... NEED ADVICE....

I have just started building my very first gaming PC, and i have a couple of questions. Here is a quick overview of the components i plan to use thus far...

Case- Coolermaster haf 932
Mobo- Asus Crosshair IV Formula
CPU- AMD Phenom II X6 1100T Black Edition Thuban 3.3GHz
GPU- ATI Radeon 6970, (or a 6990 if its out by the time i am done)

Opinions on Hard Drives, Optical Drives, Sound cards, and anything else i may have missed are welcome. I just wanted some advice on the Guts of the system. One question i do have is what kind of wattage do i need from a power supply for this configuration.

The questions i have are
- What kind of power supply should i go with?
- And basically any other helpful advice anyone can offer?

Case - i fell in love with the Lancool PC-K62 because it comes with a 140mm intake fan in the front, 120mm exhaust fan at the rear, and dual 140mm exhaust fans on top (unfortunately, i'm not building a gaming rig so it's unnecessary for me). it's $91 from ncix, but it's only a mid tower

CPU - plain & simple, intel kicks AMD's a__. PERIOD!!! there isn't even sort of a debate on that right now. cnet explains some of that here: "http://reviews.cnet.com/2719-7963_7-259-4.html?tag=" & here are some benchmarks: "http://www.cpubenchmark.net/high_end_cpus.html"... with that said, you'll probably want an i7 or i5. but, more importantly, you'll want an i7 or i5 "sandy bridge" (just google "sandy bridge" & you'll see why)

mobo - if you change your cpu, you're gonna need to change your mobo. intel just got done recalling & replacing their sandy bridge motherboards. check here: "http://www.bit-tech.net/news/hardware/2011/03/09/intel-b3-motherboards-go-on-sale/1"
& here: "http://www.pcmag.com/article2/0,2817,2379241,00.asp"
so, make sure you get a "B3" version of your mobo. like the asus p8p67 (or p8h67 if you won't be overclocking)

RAM??? - go for at least 4-8GB. that cnet article above also goes over this (& basically everything else)

hard drives - i'm going for a 60GB solid state drive for my os & programs (the ocz vertex 2 or intel x25's seem to be good) & a 1TB hdd for storage & whatnot (western digital's caviar black or the samsung spinpoint F3 seem to be the best)

optical drive - i'm using an external drive i already have, so i haven't done any research here.

sound card - my build is mainly for cs5 stuff, so i'm just using the integrated sound card on the motherboard (which is pretty darn good anyway)

CPU cooling??? - if you're gonna be gaming, you'll probably need a fan & heatsink for your cpu. the noctua NH-D14 is extremely well rated but expensive, whereas the GELID solutions tranquillo is much less expensive but not as good (but still one of the best)

power supply - your best bet is to figure out everything you're gonna get 1st, add up all their power requirements, consider if you're gonna add another gpu or more hard drives later and add that, and when you're done you should have decent number to work with. also, remember most of these things rarely ever actually use as much power as they say they will.

check out pc.ncix.com if you don't wanna put this together yourself or newegg.com if you do.

GOOD LUCK!!!

(btw, i have a "custom build critique, please" post on here too "http://forums.cnet.com/7723-7591_102-520441.html" haha)

While I've no personal experience, I have wanted to test one on a laptop once the prices were within range. The smaller ones are getting there. They've been out now long enough to develop their own history and I wish the published results were better. I've abandoned the idea for now as there is too much bad press about SSDs these days as far as reliability and data recovery in the event of some failure. You can find such discussion in these forums or use google to search for SSD problem and reliability issues. Apparently they can come out of the chute blazing but tend to falter later in the race...or at least that's how I see it.

So what processor would you recommend cause i dont think im going to be forking out 1000 bucks for the I7 extreme. but i do want something in a quad core with some speed. also what MOBO would you recommend. thanks for the all the help guys. Im a n00bie builder. but am totally jacked about learning

also i need to know if a MOBO has a PCie x16 slot will it support any PCie x16 video card are will you have to buy a particular board to go with a particular card? im sure ill have many many more questions to go. Does anyone know a good site that breaks down building a gaming PC. or any site that breaks down the technical jargon that i dont understand. there are to many darn an acronyms.
